South Western Railway upgrades waiting rooms across its network
SOUTH Western Railway (SWR) is investing over £400,000 in improving 10 stations on its network to enhance the customer experience. Basingstoke, Brockenhurst, Brookwood, Byfleet & New Haw, Earley, Farnham, Horsley, Southampton Central, Sunningdale, and Totton stations will receive upgrades to their waiting rooms.
These enhancements include modern workstations with plug and USB sockets, wireless phone chargers, refreshed decorations, new flooring, improved seating, and heating. SWR aims to cater to changing working patterns by providing better facilities for remote work and productivity.

Additionally, the company is committed to sustainability, with plans to install environmentally friendly LED lighting and make stations more accessible for wheelchair users. SWR will also introduce noticeboards in some waiting rooms to benefit local communities and station organisations.
Peter Williams, Customer and Commercial Director for South Western Railway, commented:
“SWR is committed to providing a modern, sustainable, and accessible railway for all our customers, helping them to make the most of their time, wherever they are on our network. “That’s why we are delighted to be making these significant investments as part of our ongoing effort to enhance the customer experience at our stations.”
John Wingham, Hon. Secretary of The Friends of Brockenhurst Station and parish councillor, commented:
"We are delighted with the refurbishment which has also upgraded the room with standing workstations for business passengers and provided a relaxing calm area for those who find travelling somewhat stressful. Investments of this kind make rail journeys more attractive and boost the value of the railway to the community."
The waiting room upgrades are part of a larger program to improve SWR stations. This will improve the customer experience and make the railway more modern and accessible for all.
