Weymouth Armed Forces Weekend Is Back!

This weekend sees the return of the Armed Forces Weekend celebrations to Weymouth's seafront on Saturday and Sunday.
Starting at 10am, with the Pavilion forecourt, an impressive display of military vehicles and as the morning progresses music and entertainment, including The Decadettes, who will in their usual style pay tribute to the forces, with a sing-a-long and a seated performance from the South Wales Police Band.
Across the seafront promenade, will be a variety of ex-service associations stands and forces charities stalls, all raising money and awareness.
At 3.30pm approx, the vehicles will move off from the forecourt along the seafront, where you can wave them on their way as they parade.

On the Sunday, the more solemn notes of the weekend, includes an open-air service at the Centotaph on Weymouth Seafront at 11am, followed by a flypast along the entire seafront from a Spitfire and a Hurricane from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight team. Following the service, a chance to say thank you to the veterans as they parade with pride along the Esplanade, followed by the military vehicles. Further band performance will follow this.
Don't forget the team from The Veterans Hub will be setting off after the parade on their epic bike ride and we hope here at Chesil Radio to capture their departure and other elements of the weekend as we always do.

Weymouth Town Council have been awarded £10,000 by the Ministry Of Defence towards this event.

We end the weekend with Monday morning, the raising of the Armed Forces flag at the Weymouth Town Council buildings at 10.30am.
Watch this space at the weekend for Facebook Live, photos and blogs of the weekend here on our social media. This year we will not be broadcasting live the open-air service.
