Weymouth Lion Joins Volunteers Across The South West On A Trip To Poland To Support Ukraine

Weymouth Lion Kevin Brookes is embarking on a 1200-mile, 5-day drive in aid of war-torn Ukraine.

Departing on the 2nd February 2023, he will be joining a convoy of 10 vans organised by a group of dedicated volunteers in Cornwall and Devon called "sendinglovetoukraine". Other Lions clubs across the South West are joining up to volunteer for this trip too. Although this is Kevin's first trip, it's the 9th one to deliver humanitarian aid to Ukraine via Poland. Contacts in the Polish Humanitarian Army means aid donated goes straight to those who need it in Ukraine.

Kevin says of his trip: "I know many people in this country are struggling to make ends meet now with increases in food and energy. So, l quite understand if you are not able to donate at this time. However, anything that you do donate will be put to good use. For every £5.00 donated get’s my van a further 20 miles down the road.”

The convoy will be delivering essential medical supplies that the hospitals and refugees are in need for, alongside many everyday items that we take for granted (A list can be found on the Lions Facebook page:

Kevin is asking for people to donate to his GoFundMe page to cover those delivery costs of diesel, ferry and accommodation. Any donations left over will be put towards another van's trip in March.

To donate: or you can make cheques payable to Weymouth & Portland Lions and can be posted or hand-delivered to 5, Sussex Road, Weymouth, Dorset, DT4 0PL.

We wish Kevin a safe journey from us all at Chesil Radio.
