Assault in Roche


Devon & Cornwall Police are investigating an assault which happened in a car park in Roche on Thursday 22 February.


Officers received reports that two men assaulted another man at around 10.30pm in the car park of ‘Jade Place’ Chinese restaurant. The assault resulted in a significant head injury that caused a loss of sight in one of the victim’s eyes.


Officers are appealing to anyone within the vicinity at the time of the incident or who may have been driving past to come forward.

A 24-year-old man from Roche was arrested on suspicion of assault and was released on police bail.


Appeal for information to non-recent sexual assault in Bude


Devon & Cornwall Police are appealing for witnesses and information which may assist an investigation into a non-recent sexual assault on a nine-year-old boy in Bude, Cornwall.


The incident happened on 13 August 2016 in an outdoor play area at the Sandymouth Holiday Home Park. More specifically, the assault occurred within a piece of play equipment shaped as a pirate ship.


The male suspect is believed to have been aged around 16-20 at the time and assaulted the victim inside the pirate ship.

T/Detective Constable Clare Keenan said: “This incident occurred out of sight but there were other children in the play area at the time who spoke with the victim and may have information which could assist our enquiries.
“We also believe that the suspect was local to the area and so we’re keen to hear from anyone who may be able to help us identify him.
“I’d ask anyone who was staying on the site around the time of the incident, anyone whose children may have used the play area and anyone who may be able to help identify the suspect or provide any information which could assist our enquiries, to get please get in touch.”

Attempt robbery in Paignton


Devon & Cornwall Police Detectives are appealing for witnesses following an attempted robbery on a woman in Paignton.


At around 7pm on Friday 1 March, a woman was approached by unknown man on Cadwell Road near to the junction on Torquay Road. The man tried to grab the woman’s handbag from her as she was getting into her car.


Having been unsuccessful, the man made off down Cecil Road.


He is described as a white male in his early 30s. He was approximately 5ft 8ins tall and of a slim build. He was wearing a green waterproof hooded jacket, jeans, and trainers.


Police are appealing for anyone who was in the area and has dashcam footage to come forward. Local residents with door camera footage are also being asked to get in touch via 101 or by visiting the police website quoting 50240050610.


Serious injury collision in Brixham


Devon & Cornwall Police investigating a road traffic collision in Brixham on Friday 1 March are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.


Officers were called to reports of a collision involving the rider of a Triumph motorcycle and a pedestrian on Bolton Street at around 10.15pm.


The pedestrian, a 14-year-old boy, sustained life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to hospital.


The rider of the motorbike, a man in his 30s, suffered life-changing injuries and was also taken to hospital.


The road was closed in both directions while the scene was examined by a specialist forensic collision investigator.


Officers from the Roads Policing Team attended and are appealing for any witnesses that have not already spoken to them, but who may have seen the collision.

Fatal collision in A38 Cornwall


Witnesses are sought by police after a motorcyclist died in a fatal collision on the A38 in Cornwall today, 7 March.


Emergency services were called around 7.05am following the incident involving a grey BMW motorcycle and a white Peugeot Boxer van near Trerulefoot roundabout.


The motorcyclist, a man in his 60s from Saltash, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.


The van driver was uninjured.


The A38 was closed for around eight hours for officers to investigate the scene and for the vehicles to be recovered. Police would like to thank the public for their patience during the road closure.

Officers investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision are appealing for any witnesses to contact them. They are also keen to hear from motorists with relevant dashcam footage.

Serious injury collision in Newton Abbot


Devon & Cornwall Police investigating a road traffic collision in Newton Abbot are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.


Officers were called at approximately 10.35am on Sunday 10 March to reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and a Toyota Yaris car on Highweek Village, in Highweek, Newton Abbot.


As a result of the collision a 73-year-old woman suffered what are believed to be life-changing injuries and was taken to Torbay Hospital.


The road was closed whilst officers from the Roads Policing Unit examined the scene and obtained evidence.

Spate of burglaries in Devon


Devon & Cornwall Police Detectives are again asking residents to check their doorbell and CCTV footage after another spate of burglaries in Devon.


Officers believe five recent break-ins may be linked to 15 burglary reports prior to Christmas. The latest offences took place between Monday 19 February and Monday 11 March.


Offenders entered properties in Fulford Drive in Cullompton, Dawlish Road in Exeter, Hillside in Sidmouth, South Molton Street in Chumleigh and School Lane in Thorverton by either reaching through a cat flap, damaging doors to gain entry or accessing via insecure doors and windows.


Once inside the offenders stole car keys, bank cards and the cars themselves. Of the eight cars stolen in the five most recent burglaries, four have since been recovered.

Detective Inspector Guy Biggar said: “Sadly we’ve seen a continuation in this series of crimes, and I would urge the public to be extra vigilant on securing both houses and vehicles.
“If you have seen any suspicious behaviour or have been a victim of an offence and not yet reported it, please get in touch with us.
“Equally, if you have any CCTV, dashcam or doorbell footage which may assist our enquiries, please report it to us to so we can investigate in full.
“In the meantime, we would ask residents to ensure that their homes are secure by keeping their doors locked at night and when they leave their property.”

Serious injury collision, Ashford


Devon & Cornwall Police investigating a road traffic collision near Barnstaple are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.


Officers were called at approximately 2.45pm on Sunday 17 March to reports of a collision involving a Yamaha motorcycle and a Ford Transit van on the A361 at Ashford.


As a result of the collision, the motorcyclist, a 53-year-old local man, has received life-changing injuries.


The road was closed in both directions while the scene was examined by a specialist forensic collision investigator.

Serious collision near Newquay


Devon & Cornwall Police were called at around 10.05pm on 16 March to reports of a two vehicle collision on the A3059 at St Columb Major near Newquay.


The collision involved a pedestrian and a black Nissan Note car.


Members of the Air Ambulance Response team, Southwest Ambulance, Devon and Cornwall Police Response units and Roads Policing Team attended the scene.


A 50-year-old local male pedestrian was located at the scene with suspected serious injuries. He was taken to Treliske Hospital for treatment.


The driver of the car did not sustain any injuries.


Officers would like to thank those members of the public who had stopped and assisted at the scene.

Fatal collision in Paignton

Witnesses are being sought by police after a motorcyclist died in a fatal single vehicle collision in Paignton.


Emergency services were called at approximately 7.35pm on Tuesday 19 March following the incident involving a motorcycle on Brixham Road.


The motorcyclist, a 19-year-old local male, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.


His next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.


Local officers and roads policing officers attended the scene and conducted a thorough investigation.


The road was closed for several hours whilst the investigation took place. Police would like to thank members of the public for their understanding and support at the scene.


Officers investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision are appealing for anybody who may have witnessed the collision or motorcycles in and around the area at the time of the collision to please make contact as soon as possible.

Murder investigation launched in Plymouth


Devon & Cornwall Police Detectives have launched a murder enquiry following the suspicious death of a woman in Plymouth.


Police were called around 7.30pm on Monday 18 March following concern for the welfare of the woman at an address in Rendle Street.


The woman in her 50s was pronounced deceased at the scene. Her next-of-kin have been informed. Formal identification is yet to take place.


A man in his 60s from Plymouth has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody. A 36-hour extension for his detention was granted by Exeter Magistrates’ Court today, 20 March.


Detectives from the Force Major Crime Investigation Team have launched a murder investigation and are conducting enquiries to establish the circumstances of the woman’s death.


A scene guard was in place at the property while house-to-house enquiries and searches remain ongoing.

Detective Inspector Neil Blanchard said: “We are in the early stages of our enquiries but have made one arrest. At this time we believe this to be an isolated incident and the parties known to each other.
“We would ask anyone who may have information about this incident to please get in touch. The public will see an increased presence in the area while we conduct our enquiries over the next day or so.”

Serious collision in Torquay


Devon & Cornwall Police are appealing for witnesses and information following a serious road traffic collision in Torquay on Saturday 23 March 2024.


Officers were called at around 1:30am to Tor Church Road following reports of a collision involving a motorcycle and a parked car.


The rider of the motorcycle, a 19-year-old man, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Fatal road traffic collision in Plymouth


Police investigating a fatal road traffic collision in Plymouth on Sunday 24 March are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.


Emergency services were called at around 9.45am to a report of a collision involving a Nissan Qashqai and two pedestrians on Victoria Road, Plymouth.


South West Ambulance Service, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue and Devon and Cornwall Police all attended.


A woman aged 24 and a girl aged five, from Plymouth, both sustained serious injuries and were taken to Derriford Hospital and were subsequently pronounced deceased. Their next of kin have been informed.


A 74-year-old woman from Plymouth has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving and of driving while unfit through drink or drugs. She has been released under investigation.


The road was closed while officers from the Roads Policing Team carried out investigations at the scene. It was reopened around 8.55pm.

Sergeant Troy Bennett, who is leading the investigation, said: “Specialist officers from the Serious Collisions Investigation Team are investigating the circumstances of this tragic collision.
“We would urge anyone with any information or footage from dashcams or doorbells to contact us.”

Arson in Holsworthy


Devon & Cornwall Police investigating an arson at a property in Holsworthy are appealing to the public for information.


The incident occurred at a home located on Whimble Hill at approximately 11.40pm on Saturday 23 March.


It is believed that an unknown suspect or suspects intentionally set fire to a house during darkness hours. The act was committed whilst the occupants inside the property were asleep.


The incident is being treated as an arson with an intent to endanger life.


Detectives are now seeking to identify three men that they believe may be linked to this offence and are encouraging members of the public who may have witnessed anything suspicious to come forward and speak to them in confidence.


Those thought to be involved in the offence are believed to have been driving a SAAB estate car that was registered in 2006. This vehicle was taken to the offence location and is thought to have travelled through Holsworthy both before and after this incident.


This vehicle is uncommon on the road, and it may be that you saw this vehicle or something of note that may assist this investigation.

Spate of burglaries in Woolacombe


Devon & Cornwall Police are asking residents to ensure their properties are secure and to check their doorbell and CCTV footage after a spate of break-ins around the Woolacombe area.


Officers believe two break-ins in Woolacombe and two in Mortehoe, which all took place overnight between Sunday 24 March and Monday 25 March, are linked.


Between 12.30am and 3am an occupant of a property in Mortehoe heard a loud bang downstairs.


Upon inspection the man noticed damage to a rear side door. His wallet was missing and his coat pockets had been rummaged. A key to the front door of the house was also taken.


There was also evidence of a break-in at a disused Coastguard station in Mortehoe.


Also overnight a bicycle was taken from a property at Woolacombe Rise in Woolacombe. The bike was located nearby. The property’s garage and porch doors were open and there had been an unsuccessful attempt to enter the house.


At approximately 3.40am the occupants of a property at Chichester Park, Woolacombe were awoken by a noise outside that sounded like someone walking on the decking.


They have since discovered that the door to their side conservatory was opened and alcohol taken. A bike shed was also opened.

Serious assault in Bude


Devon & Cornwall Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was attacked in Bude on Sunday 17 March.


The assault took place at or near The Bandstand between 8pm and 9pm.The assault took place at or near The Bandstand between 8pm and 9pm.


A man in his 60s received a significant head injury during the course of the attack and was taken to hospital as a result.


A man in his 40s was arrested and has since been released on police bail.


Officers are keen to speak to anybody who witnessed the incident, or may have information that could aid the investigation.


Investigator Tim Wright, of Liskeard CID, has said that he understands that there may have been a number of people in the area at the time of the incident who may be able to offer significant evidence to assist the investigation.

Serious injury collision, A38, Plymouth


Devon & Cornwall Police investigating a road traffic collision on the A38 on Wednesday 27 March are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.


Police were called to reports of a collision involving a blue Vauxhall Corsa and a MAN lorry on the westbound carriageway of the A38 at Deep Lane, Plymouth, at around 8.05pm.


Emergency services attended the scene.


As a result of the collision, a 51-year-old local man was taken to Derriford Hospital with life threatening injuries.


The road was partially closed for around five hours while an investigation was carried out at the scene.

Serious injury collision in Plymouth


Devon & Cornwall Police investigating a road traffic collision at Dunnet Road, Plymouth on Friday 22 March are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.


Officers were notified following reports of the collision involving a motorcycle at around 5.45pm.


The rider of the motorcycle was taken to Derriford Hospital where he continues to be treated for serious injuries. His family are aware and remain with him at this time.

Serious collision on A30


Devon & Cornwall Police are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage following a serious road traffic collision on the A30 on Thursday 28 March.


Officers were called to the two-vehicle collision in the Tedburn St Mary area at around 11am.


The collision involved a white articulated heavy goods vehicle and a black Ford Fiesta.


As a result of the collision, a child, aged four, in the rear of the Ford Fiesta sustained serious injuries and was taken to Bristol Children’s Hospital. She sustained what were considered to be life-threatening injuries but remains in a stable collision. The driver of the lorry was uninjured.


Officers from the Roads Policing Team attended the scene. Once a forensic investigation had been conducted the road was re-opened.  Officers would like to thank the public for their patience.

Serious collision in Exeter


Devon & Cornwall Police are appealing for witnesses following a collision involving a van and a pedestrian in Exeter.


Officers were called at around 7.50pm on Thursday 28 March to the incident involving an adult female and a silver Ford Transit van on Sidmouth Road.


South West Ambulance Service personnel and police officers attended the scene. The female was taken to Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital initially but then transferred to Derriford Hospital. She suffered serious injuries and remains in hospital for treatment.

Serious collision in Exeter


Devon & Cornwall Police were called at around 6.25pm on 29 March following a collision involving a van and a pedestrian on New North Road in Exeter.


As a result of the collision, the pedestrian, a 79-year-old woman suffered potentially life changing injuries and was taken to Exeter Hospital. Her next of kin are aware.


The road was closed whilst officers from the Roads Policing Team examined the scene and obtained evidence.
