Chapelhay Tavern Named Chesil Radio’s Pub of the Year

Chesil Radio has announced the Chapelhay Tavern in Weymouth as its Pub of the Year, recognising the venue’s strong community spirit, welcoming atmosphere and outstanding service.

The Chapelhay Tavern emerged as a natural winner for the Chesil Radio team, following its continued support of local causes — most notably helping the Weymouth branch of the Royal British Legion with a series of successful events last year. Judges praised the pub’s commitment to the community alongside its consistently friendly and inclusive environment.

Despite its popularity and busy periods, the team at the Chapelhay Tavern were commended for maintaining excellent service, always delivered with a smile. The pub has also recently attracted attention from well-known TikTok and Facebook content creators, offering a fresh perspective on the venue and further highlighting its appeal beyond the local area.

Visitors can expect a strong and competitively priced drinks selection — with particular praise for the Butcombe beers — and an interior filled with fascinating artefacts, many naval, that invite customers to linger and explore.

Safety and comfort were also highlighted as key factors in the decision. The Chapelhay Tavern stands out as a place where people feel comfortable and secure, whether visiting alone or with friends — an increasingly important consideration for many pub-goers.

Chesil Radio is encouraging listeners and locals alike to visit the Chapelhay Tavern, whether for a cosy conversation or a relaxed Sunday afternoon of music. The celebrations continue on Tuesday 10 February 2026, when Chesil Radio will host the pub’s inaugural music quiz night, starting at 7.30pm.

Our runner-up was The William Henry, last years winner, which they would have shared with The Star, which sadly closed with the long-term management earlier this month. We chose not to select an additional runner-up.
