Portlanders Talk About What Matters To Them

At the recent 'Portland Pop' event, islanders voiced their priorities for a better community. Health facilities and decision-making control topped the list, followed closely by youth provision and support for independent shops.

The event, organised by the Portland Humanity Project, brought together residents to discuss and address key issues. The Portland Pop, held at Easton Methodist Church Hall, is just the beginning. More gatherings are planned to tackle the identified challenges creatively. Stories and experiences shared at the Pop will be presented at a national assembly in Summer 2024.

Etienne Stott, who is a part of the organising team said, “I really like the idea that the Portland Pop was simply focused on hearing what people on this island need and then trying to find ways where we can work together to make life better.”

The First National Assembly, is a national conversation where randomly selected delegates from neighbourhood assemblies come together to shape the future of our country. Scientists, artists, and everyday people will discuss and plan action based on the outcomes of the Portland Pop. The demands from this assembly will be broadcast nationwide, reflecting the desires of ordinary people for secure and decent lives.

The Humanity Project is uniting people across the UK to accelerate solutions to our pressing crises. By empowering everyday citizens through true democracy, we aim to drive real change. Take part and make your voice heard in shaping a better tomorrow.
