Follow-Up To Our Last (?!) From Smallbrook Stadium

Before we share with you our meeting report and our Wildcats recording next week, hopefully, I just wanted to follow up with some things from yesterday at Smallbrook Stadium.

It was great to say goodbye with a win for the Wildcats and Heathens, I don’t think that has happened for me before that the outcome of both the main meetings have been wins for the teams we follow (and will continue to do so!). Well done to both teams!

It was a night of coincidences in so many ways, as you know about my personal beliefs, that the song that played as I settled into my usual spot was The Buggles – Video Killed The Radio Star, seemed so apt for the night and then my microphone connector just snapped in my hand, so I had to go back to the old original way of recording the meeting on my phone as I had all those seasons ago. And as we all know things come in threes, the young child who rushed forward next to me, to be covered in shale, and her dad reassuring her it's just shale and all part of the fun, yep, and I have the bruises to prove it.

It was lovely to see so many and be able to say goodbye as I wanted to, and yes, at the end of the Wildcats meeting, I cried, I was relatively pulling myself together, when a lovely lady that I have spoken to many times at Smallbrook came up and gave me a hug (I am so sorry I don’t know her name!).

At the beginning of the night, it was discussed that it was going to be a quick departure at the end of the training element of the meeting, but we stayed as always, the Wildcats co-promoter, Martin and his son rider Sam and girlfriend Jo had stepped in to help mechanic for the Warriors team.

It felt like a long old road back from the trip, and I won’t miss the late-night journey back and the pain at the end of the night, where I could barely get in the van at the end of the night, and I have been lucky to have surfaced 12 hours later properly, but still in a lot of pain and fatigue, but as always with speedway, well worth it.

I would like to thank Barry and the team at Smallbrook Stadium, every single one of you, for all the support and love over the past few seasons. A huge thank you must go to Martin Peters, who also makes sure I get door to door to and from meetings, even though it is a tough one I know for him (and thank you for the race jacket to add to my collection!).

And to you all, it’s been a blast and I am sure that it won’t be my last trip to Smallbrook Stadium and as S Club 7 says:

In the years to come Will you think about these moments that we shared In the years to come Are you gonna think it over And how we lived each day with no regrets Nothing lasts forever though we want it to The road ahead holds different dreams for me and you”

“In a year from now Maybe there will be things we wished we never said In a year from now Maybe we'll see each other Standing in the same street corner, no regrets Each and every end is always written in the stars If only I could stop the world I'd make this last”

Keep on supporting the Isle Of Wight for the rest of the season and here are the dates not to be missed....
