School Friend Walking Through Our Area For Alzheimer's Charity

I was pleasantly surprised when an old school friend reached out to inform me about a fellow classmate embarking on a charity walk from Land's End to John O'Groats for Alzheimer's. In no time, we had all the information we needed, including their Facebook page and Just Giving details, shared on our social media platforms.

But here we tell you why it's so important if you can donate. Did you know....

  • One in two of us will be affected by Alzheimer's, with one in three of us developing dementia in our lifetime.

  • Currently there are 944,000 people who have dementia in the UK and that is predicted to rise to 1.1 million by 2030.

  • Sadly it was the leading cause of death in 2022, and research shows that 40% of all dementia cases can be prevented.

  • 70,800 people are living with young onset dementia.

These are just the cold facts, but there are people who live and care for family and friends who deal with this condition every day. We are proud to share the plans for Paul Lindsay's to walk from Lands End to John O'Groats, and you can read and hear about his personal story on his Facebook page, which links to a Just Giving page, he has had a great start to his walk that starts on Sunday, having already raised at time of writing, £10.211 of his £15,000 target. Over 60 days he intends to walk 20 miles a day, which starts in our broadcast area, so offer him some support if you can!!
